Bob Enyart taught this study on the book of James from pod #6, cell #42 of the Jefferson County Jail, where he was serving a 60-day sentence due to state persecution. Using a jailhouse phone, he recorded studies on the first two chapters of James, only to be cut off mid-sentence each time the automated voice interrupted with, "You have fifteen seconds left to talk."
You'll hear it all: the interruptions, the stories of church in jail, cellmates being threatened by other inmates, and, of course, the verse-by-verse study of God's Word.
It's fitting, because James opens with the exhortation to "count it all joy when you fall into various trials," and Bob is living out that verse as he teaches it.
James is the book Martin Luther wanted torn out of the Bible. In this study, Bob tackles the passages that have puzzled Christians for centuries and shows how they fit together when James is read in context, considering who is writing, to whom he is writing, and under which covenant.
A classic among longtime listeners, this remains one of the most memorable studies Bob ever recorded.
