Bible Study Tools (Hermeneutics Seminar)

A hermeneutic is simply a tool for understanding the Bible. If you’ve ever wondered why Christians can read the same passage and come to completely different conclusions, it’s usually because they’re using different tools—or using the same ones in the wrong order.
That’s why good hermeneutics matter.
Of all Bob Enyart’s teachings, many people consider this one the most important.
“Of all Bob Enyart’s materials, the Hermeneutics Seminar is the best!” — Brian, Thornton, Colorado
This seminar was recorded at Denver’s historic Brown Palace Hotel and focuses on the core principles Bob used every time he opened the Bible. He explains what these tools are, how they’re commonly misused, and how to apply them correctly.
From there, the seminar works through a wide range of commonly used Bible study tools, showing both how to use them properly and how they are often abused. These include:
✅ Christological reading, understanding Scripture as Christ centered and as His Word
✅ Context properly prioritized, beginning with God’s existence, nature, and story before narrowing down to context, book, chapter, paragraph, and sentence
✅ Literalness, recognizing that Scripture communicates real meaning while also using figures of speech, symbols, parables, and poetry
✅ Historical and grammatical study, paying attention to original languages and historical and cultural setting
✅ The Covenantal versus Dispensational principle, especially as it relates to Paul’s instructions
✅ Prophetic interpretation, including speaking God’s Word, predictive prophecy, and non prophecy that can only be recognized in hindsight
✅ The Sufficiency Principle, showing that Scripture provides everything necessary for spiritual accountability
✅ Spiritually discerned truth, since God’s Word is given to lead people to Christ, with much written specifically to believers
✅ Typology, where people, events, objects, and rituals point forward to Christ and redemption
✅ Inerrancy, affirming that the original autographs were inspired by the Holy Spirit, not later copies or translations
✅ Numerology, where numbers at times carry symbolic meaning
✅ The First Mention principle, where foundational truths are introduced early in Scripture
✅ Hebrew parallelism, including poetic structures like couplets, contrasts, and symmetry
⚖️One of the most important ideas in this seminar is that Bible study tools do not all carry the same weight. Some must come before others. If the order is wrong, even good tools can lead to serious confusion. The seminar begins with the most foundational questions, starting with God Himself, His existence, eternity, and being. From there it moves to His Story, the overall plot and storyline of the Bible, because if you miss the big picture, the details will never fully make sense.
It also addresses His Nature, showing God as living, personal, relational, good, and loving, including the J.O.N.A.H. and N.O.A.H. frameworks. At this point in the seminar, Bob introduces a major shift in how these tools are normally prioritized, a kind of plot twist that helps explain why so much Bible confusion exists in the first place.
❌This seminar does not just give you a list of techniques. It gives you a way of thinking through Scripture. You will learn how to read the Bible more carefully, avoid common interpretive errors, and make sense of passages that once felt confusing or contradictory. Along the way, these tools also help explain human nature and why the world works the way it does. Once you learn these principles, you will find yourself using them every time you open the Bible.
